    Montreal's casino occupies the former French and Quebec pavilions from Expo 67, out on Île Notre-Dame in the St. Lawrence River. The architecture is reason enough to cross the bridge.

    Treat it as a hotel stay first. People come for the island setting, the restaurants and the view of the city skyline across the water. The gaming floor is one part of the complex, not the whole of it. Downtown is a short drive away, or a metro ride and a shuttle.

    Fallsview Casino Resort

    Few hotel windows face anything like this. Fallsview Casino Resort stands on the Canadian side of Niagara Falls, and its hotel tower looks out over the Horseshoe Falls.

    The resort runs large. There is a spa, a spread of restaurants and a theatre that books touring concerts and comedy. The gaming floor sits inside the complex next to a shopping arcade. Outside, the falls and the Niagara Parkway are a walk downhill.

    River Rock sits on the Fraser River in Richmond, a few minutes from Vancouver International Airport. The Canada Line runs close by, so downtown Vancouver is reachable without a car.

    Rooms and suites are the core of it, several with river views. There is a show theatre, a pool and spa, and restaurants across a range of prices. Gaming is one feature among these. The resort also fronts a marina on the river.

    Casino Rama Resort stands on the lands of the Chippewas of Rama First Nation, near Orillia and the shore of Lake Couchiching. Toronto is roughly ninety minutes to the south by car.

    A hotel tower anchors the property, with a spa and several restaurants on site. Concerts and comedy fill the entertainment centre through the year. The gaming floor is part of resort life, but the lakes, trails and cottage towns of the region are the wider draw.
